Thrive’s Graduating Class of 2020

Congratulations to our 3 graduating seniors (L to R): Noelle Swift, Lucy Carlos, Sidney Shanahan. We are so incredibly proud of the beautiful and talent young women you have grown to be. It has been a pleasure to watch you all grow and to be apart of your journey. We wish you the best on your future endeavors, but remember Thrive will always be your home 💗

Lucy Carlos

Years Dancing: 16

College: University of Connecticut

Advice For Younger Dancers: Dance every time like its your last. Time flies by so much faster than you think. Don’t waste your opportunities to perform stressing about being technically perfect, let yourself get lost in the movement and enjoy every second onstage💗

Most Memorable Thrive Dance: Avant Gardener. There was something so special about the dance and the energy we had on stage. On top of the crown jewel and all of the amazing awards, I really feel like this dance pushed me so far out of my comfort zone and I had a complete breakthrough.

Lucy’s Favorite Quote: “Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like and learn to find joy in the story you are actually living.” – Rachel Marie Martin

Note from Lucy: “While I wish I could have had a normal last season, I could not be more grateful for the incredible memories that Thrive has given me. These past six years, Thrive has been my second home, and has helped me grow into a stronger, more confident dancer and person. I want to thank Persephonie and all my teachers for always pushing me and believing in me, even in the times that I did not. And of course, my amazing teammates for always supporting and inspiring me. There’s nothing I will miss more than dancing beside my best friends, but I know I will always have be apart of the Thrive family💗💗”

Sidney Shanahan

Years Dancing: 6

College: College of Charleston Honors Program double majoring in Business Administration and Dance with a minor in Spanish

Advice For Younger Dancers: Looking back on my time at Thrive, I have only one regret, and that’s ever feeling embarrassed or shy. The family you are surrounded with is there for encouragement for you to all grow together (as dancers and people in general), so never miss a chance to dance – no matter how scared or self conscious you may be. These will be the best years of your life, so don’t waste them being afraid to express yourself or of being judged. Build up everyone you can, whether they’re on your team or not, and welcome success in any way possible from small victories like nailing a triple turn or major accomplishments like a perfect score. 💓

Most Memorable Thrive Dance: Ahhhh this is so hard I love them all so so much!! If I had to choose, Whip It is my favorite, since it holds such a special place in my heart. It was my first group dance ever and it introduced me to the amazing feeling that comes with performing alongside your best friends.

Sidney’s Favorite Quote: “Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.”— Albert Schweitzer

Note from Sidney: Choosing to start dance in the middle of 7th grade was a huge leap for me, but little did I know it would change the entire path of my life in the best way possible. My time at Thrive has taught me the true value of friendship, as I have met my second family there and can’t imagine my life without each and every dancer and teacher I’ve had the privilege to meet. Persephonie and the girls continuously lifted me up when I was down and believed in me even when I couldn’t. I wouldn’t be the dancer or person I am without their undying support and encouragement over the years, which is something I wish everyone was lucky enough to have. I’ve made the best memories of my life at Thrive – from a perfect score to countless spontaneous dance battles – and hope to make many more.💓

Noelle Swift

Years Dancing: 15

College: Attending Sacred Heart University studying Neuroscience and Exercise Science on the Pre-Physical Therapy track

Favorite Quote: “A joyful heart is good medicine.” Proverbs 17:22

Advice for Younger Dancers: Enjoy the weekly classes! Performances are fun, but getting to dance and have fun with your friends and being with your teachers is such a great thing.

Note from Noelle: “I’ve  been dancing since I was 3, but was at a different dance studio before I came to Thrive. Coming to Thrive, I found teachers who truly cared about not just me as a dancer but also as a person. Other students are kind and welcoming, and this was the only dance studio I’ve ever been to where the students encourage and clap for each other. Thrive is a place of kindness and love where everyone helps everyone to grow. 💕”
